1. What is the tax submission due on 15th August?
A Statement of Estimated Tax Payable (SET) must be filed by 15th August each year. This is required as per section 91 of the Inland Revenue Act No. 24 of 2017 (as amended).
This document requires taxpayers to estimate their annual tax payable for a particular year. Based on this annual estimated tax payable, quarterly payments need to be made.
2. Who needs to file a SET?
Individuals having an income over Rs.100,000 per month (Rs.1.2 million per year) need to file a SET. From all sources of income including employment, business income and investment income like fixed deposits.
3. What if the only source of income for me is my salary?
You will be required to file SET (and a Tax Return in November) but will not be required to pay anything extra.
Ensure that you claim the personal relief of Rs. 1.2 million.
4. What if I have interest income from FDs?
You may have to pay additional taxes depending on your income.
However, if your total income is Rs. 2.3 million per year, it is likely that you are due a refund.

5. What if I have rental income?
There are 2 possible ways to do this, depending on whether withholding taxes have been deducted from your rent.
